BM 80054 is a clay tablet artifact that contains lines 99-107 (obverse), 161-167 (reverse), and 202-208 (side) of "Inanna's Descent to the Netherworld" in Sumerian cuneiform. The artifact is located at the British Museum and may have been found in central Iraq (Yusufiyah, Baghdad province) during an expedition. The artifact was first published by Bendt Alster and Markham J. Geller in 1990 on behalf of the British Museum.
The artifact is commonly abbreviated as CT 58.
Origin (provenance) and discovery
The exact origin is unknown because of the artifact recovery methods, but its location may refer to the ancient city known as Sippar-Yahrurum, Tell Abu Habbah, Sippar, or Zimbir (𒌓𒄒𒉣𒆠 in Sumerian). The British Museum authorized publication of this artifact in 1990 as part of a series on cuneiform texts.[1]

Inanna's Descent to the Netherworld Afterlife mythNuthsell
Inanna descends from the great above to the great below. She abandons several temples and heads for open country. She gives precise instructions to her companion—Ninsubur: Inanna says "if I don't return in three days, go to the temples and plead on my behalf." At the netherworld she enters and goes through seven gates before she is turned into a corpse. Ninsubur follows the instructions and tells Inanna's father Enkil what happened. He helps her by sending two a-sexual creatures to sneak in and bring her back to life. Once Inanna is alive she ascends while being escorted by demons from the netherworld. The demons allow her to trade her husband Dumuzi in her place.
