About
A Mound of Many Cities; Or, Tell El Hesy Excavated, written by Frederick Jones Bliss, was an important work for the field of archaeology. The text and illustrations provide information about excavation work done in Tell El Hesi (in Israel). It was the first major site excavated in Palestine, first by Flinders Petrie in 1890 and later by Bliss (the author) in 1891 and 1892. It was sponsored by the Palestine Exploration Fund. This book is the second edition, while the first edition was originally published in 1894.

Author's preface: "My object in writing this volume has been to present facts with as slight an admixture of theory as is possible. In Chapter VI. I have been obliged to offer a tentative chronology for the various cities unearthed; but I have Shown in every case the method of my procedure from the facts, leaving to the reader the material from which he may form his own conclusions, which may differ from my own."
