About Matthew John Suriano
Matthew J. Suriano is a biblical scholar, archaeologist, and professor at the University of Maryland. He earned his Ph.D. (2008) in Near Eastern Languages and Cultures at the University of California, Los Angeles. His second published book, A History of Death in the Hebrew Bible, won the Frank Moore Cross Award from the American Schools of Oriental Research. As of 2020, he is an Associate Professor at the University of Maryland, College Park.

Dr. Suriano is an active member of SBL and ASOR, and has been a fellow at the Albright Institute of Archaeological Research in Jerusalem (AIAR). He has participated in several archaeological excavations in Israel, and is a current member of the Tel Burna excavation project.

Matthew Suriano is an Associate Professor in the Joseph and Rebecca Meyerhoff Center for Jewish Studies at the University of Maryland.
